Me: OK, let's hear it Lily.

Me: I don't know. What is an owl's favorite game?

Lily: Whooo....whooo...I love to play basketball.

Lily: It means you have to stay by your family or a stranger may come and take you off to college.

Lily has gotten to the point where she has a question about EVERYTHING and, because Lily is Lily, she wants immediate answers to her questions. This sort of thing is happening to me now all. the. time.

Me (on phone): Sure, that sounds like a good idea.

Lily: Daddy!

Me: (on phone) It's just a matter of cost really.

Lily: DADDY!

Me: (on phone) Excuse me one second please.

Lily: DADDY!

Me: Lily, what is it? Can't you see I'm on the phone?

Lily: Why don't bears live in houses?

Mommy has a different last name

E: Why does everyone in our family have the same last name except Mommy?

Me: Oh, well...when people get married the Mommy usually takes the same last name as the Daddy, but your Mommy wanted to keep her last name. She was very proud of it and had worked for a long time with that name and just didn't want to change it.

E: (thinks) OK.

Me: Do you understand?

E: Yes. It's not like someone was going to give her $500 or something.

Every day when she gets in the car, I ask Lily what she did that day. Generally, I get an answer like this one.

Lily: Good. 

Me: What did you do today?

Lily: We played kitchen.
