The Whole Foods Foundation, whose goal is to improve children's nutrition in school and at home, has put together a really cute and fun free app called Awesome Eats where kids "sort, stack, pack, and plate a rainbow of fresh-from-the-garden foods!"
I like this one a lot and I think the world needs more marketing like this (of good, healthy foods) targeted at kids to combat the constant bombardment of advertising for unhealthy food that is virtually everywhere.
Hey, broccoli can be fun too!
The app has no in-app purchases and no ads, even Whole Foods isn't pushed that hard.
From iTunes:
In each level you’ll stack and sort fruits, veggies and whole grains across wacky contraptions to win stars and score big points! Be on the lookout for thieving birds and tap to shoo them away for extra points. You and your kids will unlock hours of challenging game play and get loads of healthy eating tips along the way.
Featuring 32 challenging levels, a cast of over 50 characters, healthy eating tips, skill bonuses, obstacles and fun surprises to keep you on your toes!
Presented by Whole Kids Foundation: Supporting schools and inspiring families to improve children's nutrition and wellness.

Here are the rules for the Good Free App of the Day.
1) Rather than just post a list with links of free apps (some of which may not be very good) we're going to find one free app each day, make sure it's worth downloading, and post the info.
2) The app has to have some substance as free. In other words, it can't be a few seconds of play and then require an in-app purchase.
3) My kids or I have to like it.
4) It can't have ads all over it.
